Manchester City and Girona FC are awaiting a major decision from UEFA regarding their eligibility to compete in next season’s Champions League.

The two clubs, both part of the City Football Group, have secured European competition for next season, with City guaranteed a top-four finish in the Premier League and Girona potentially qualifying for the Champions League.

The decision centers on the relationship between Manchester City and Girona, both of which are managed by the City Football Group.

UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) will determine whether both clubs can participate in the Champions League, as UEFA rules state that no club involved in a UEFA competition can be directly involved in another participating club’s management.

If Girona qualifies for the Champions League, the CFCB must decide whether the relationship between the two clubs violates any regulations regarding executive control or information sharing.

Should the CFCB rule against City Football Group, the club with the higher domestic finish would take the Champions League spot.

Manchester City is focusing on its Premier League and FA Cup pursuits this season, while Girona hopes to secure a top spot in La Liga. The outcome of UEFA’s decision will shape the future of both clubs in next season’s European competitions.
