Mikel Arteta faces questions as Man City hit with 115 charges

Manchester City’s bid for a historic fourth consecutive Premier League title is overshadowed by ongoing Financial Fair Play (FFP) investigations, with pundits questioning the legitimacy of any potential victory.

The Citizens, locked in a tight race with Arsenal for the top spot, face West Ham on the final day needing a win to secure the trophy.

Meanwhile, the Gunners, chasing their first title in over two decades, require both a City defeat and their own win against Everton to be crowned champions.

However, former Liverpool player Jason McAteer and presenter Richard Keys believe any City triumph would be tainted by the 115 charges of financial misconduct currently levied against the club. City vehemently denies any wrongdoing, but the case is yet to be settled.

Keys argued that a City win would come with an “asterisk” due to the financial cloud hanging over them. He pointed to the sheer number of charges, including failure to provide accurate financial information and breaches of FFP rules.

McAteer echoed these sentiments, highlighting the frustration of teams like Liverpool who narrowly missed out on titles during City’s dominant period.

The potential punishments for City remain unclear, with possibilities ranging from financial penalties to points deductions or even the stripping of titles.

While some fans might see a potential points deduction for next season as a minor inconvenience, many are calling for harsher punishments. This controversy adds a layer of complexity to the Premier League title race, leaving a question mark over the legitimacy of the eventual winner.
