Manchester City’s Ederson set to miss rest of season?

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson is facing a significant setback after sustaining a shoulder injury during the 2-0 victory against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

The Brazilian shot-stopper was forced off at halftime after sustaining the injury in a challenge with Willy Boly. This raises concerns about whether Ederson may be out for the rest of the season.

Ederson managed to complete the first half of the match after receiving treatment from Manchester City’s medical team. However, he was replaced by backup goalkeeper Stefan Ortega at the break.

Ortega, who has previously deputized for Ederson, kept Forest at bay, and Erling Haaland came off the bench to secure the victory for City.

In a post-match press conference, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed concern about Ederson’s condition, stating, “It doesn’t look good.

We’ll see tomorrow with the doctor.” The team will conduct further assessments to determine the extent of Ederson’s injury and whether he can participate in the remaining games.

The potential loss of Ederson for the rest of the season poses a challenge for Manchester City, who remain in a tight race for the Premier League title against Arsenal.

City’s remaining games include matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United. Guardiola and his squad will have to navigate these fixtures without their first-choice goalkeeper if Ederson’s injury keeps him sidelined.

In Ederson’s absence, Ortega may step up to the starting role, having proven his abilities as a capable deputy in previous matches. Ortega has kept seven clean sheets in 17 competitive appearances for City this season since joining the club in 2022.

The team and fans will be awaiting further updates on Ederson’s injury status to see how it will impact the remainder of Manchester City’s season.
