Manchester City sweat over fitness of De Bruyne and Ederson

Manchester City secured a vital 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night, but the win was overshadowed by concerns surrounding the fitness of key players Kevin De Bruyne and Ederson Moraes.

Both De Bruyne and Ederson were forced off the field during the second half due to injury worries.

De Bruyne, who provided the assist for Erling Haaland’s opening goal, hobbled off with an ankle problem after a challenge by Pape Matar Sarr.

Ederson, meanwhile, collided with Cristian Romero and suffered an eye injury, forcing him off for the fourth time this season.

The injuries to these two crucial players leave a big question mark over their availability for the final two matches of the campaign.

Manchester City are on the cusp of a historic quadruple, needing just a win against West Ham this weekend to secure a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title.

They also face Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

Manager Pep Guardiola addressed the media after the match, revealing the extent of the injuries.

“Kevin had a kick to the ankle and couldn’t run properly,” Guardiola said. “Ederson did not have a concussion, he had a problem with his eye. He could not see properly so the doctor said I should change.”

Stefan Ortega, who replaced Ederson in goal, impressed with crucial saves to secure the win.

The German shot-stopper could find himself starting in Sunday’s Premier League finale if Ederson fails to recover in time.

Ortega has already filled in for Ederson against both Arsenal and Real Madrid earlier this season.

Manchester City fans will be anxiously awaiting updates on the fitness of De Bruyne and Ederson in the coming days. Their participation in the upcoming fixtures will be crucial to the club’s hopes of achieving a historic quadruple.
