Manchester City are once again linked with a Leverkusen star but the move doesn’t appear likely this summer

Manchester City has once again been linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz. However, despite the renewed interest, it seems unlikely that a summer move for the German playmaker will occur this season.

A recent report from Javier Peña of Fichajes suggests that Manchester City, along with other top European clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Liverpool, have their eyes on the Leverkusen star. Despite the high demand, Bayer Leverkusen is adamant about retaining one of their top talents and has no intention of selling Wirtz this summer.

Wirtz has played a key role in Leverkusen’s success this season, helping them secure their first-ever Bundesliga title. His remarkable performance includes 18 goals and 19 assists across all competitions, making him a standout performer for Xabi Alonso’s side.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that Leverkusen is unwilling to part ways with the German international during this transfer window.

This means any potential move by Manchester City or other clubs for Wirtz will likely need to wait until a later transfer window.

The young playmaker’s attributes, including his playmaking skills and goal-scoring ability, make him a strong candidate to eventually join Manchester City. Wirtz could potentially be seen as a long-term successor to Kevin De Bruyne in the club’s midfield.

While it is only natural for Wirtz to be linked with a move to City given his performances, it seems any potential transfer for the playmaker may be more likely in the summer of 2025. Until then, the club and other interested parties will likely monitor Wirtz’s development closely.
