The Premier League title race may be coming down to the final day, but the transfer window is already heating up. Arsenal and Manchester City are locked in a battle to sign Newcastle United’s star midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, valued at a staggering £100 million.

While Liverpool were initially interested, the fight for the championship has become a two-horse race between the Gunners and the Citizens. Despite a valiant effort from Arsenal, most predict Manchester City will secure the title with a win against West Ham.

Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz were previously linked with the Gunners. However, reliable journalist Ben Jacobs reports that Arsenal have initiated contact with Guimaraes’ representatives.

Unfortunately for Arsenal fans, Manchester City are also interested in the Brazilian international and have made contact with his camp as well. The key difference lies in their willingness to spend. Jacobs reveals that Arsenal are hesitant to pay the full £100 million release clause, whereas City’s stance remains unclear.

Newcastle United are understandably reluctant to lose their prized asset, but the hefty release clause, active between late May and June, could force their hand. While they would ideally point to the full value of the clause, offers exceeding £80 million could be considered if Guimaraes pushes for a move to a Champions League club.

Jacobs emphasizes that Guimaraes is content at Newcastle, but both Arsenal and City have made their intentions known. City, however, appear to be the more aggressive pursuer. While Arsenal appreciate Guimaraes’ talent, they are unwilling to trigger the release clause and would only consider a move if the price drops significantly.

Adding further fuel to the fire, Manchester City could have an even greater need for Guimaraes if Bernardo Silva departs.

The Portuguese midfielder is a target for both PSG and Barcelona, with a £50 million release clause facilitating a potential exit. PSG, interestingly, have shifted their focus from Guimaraes to Silva, opening the door for City to potentially replace Silva with the Brazilian.

The coming weeks will be crucial in this transfer saga. Will Arsenal change their stance and meet Newcastle’s demands? Or will Manchester City flex their financial muscle and secure the signature of Bruno Guimaraes? One thing is certain: the battle for Premier League dominance extends far beyond the final match of the season.
