Florentino Perez approves Real Madrid move for Girona super star, linked with Manchester City

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has reportedly sanctioned a move for 21-year-old Brazilian defender Yan Couto from Manchester City.

According to a report from Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid is interested in signing Yan Couto as a long-term successor to Dani Carvajal. The 21-year-old, currently on loan at Girona from Manchester City, has impressed during his time in La Liga.

Yan Couto joined Girona on loan from Manchester City in July 2022 and has been one of the standout young players in the league. This marks his second loan spell at Estadi Montilivi, following a successful stint during the 2020/21 season.

While Couto has been with Manchester City since July 2020, he has struggled to break into the first team. However, his loan spell at Girona has been highly productive, contributing two goals and eight assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.

Real Madrid’s interest in Couto is logical as they seek a long-term replacement for Carvajal. The Brazilian full-back has expressed openness to joining Real Madrid, indicating that a move to the Santiago Bernabeu could be on the cards.

However, any potential deal might have to wait until the 2025 summer transfer window, with Real Madrid considering the option of a free transfer. Other right-back targets such as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James are also under consideration, making the transfer scenario intriguing for Real Madrid.

Overall, Yan Couto’s potential move to Real Madrid signifies the club’s focus on securing young talent for the future and addressing key positions in their squad.
