Manchester City forward Erling Haaland’s representatives have made it clear to the club that they have no intention of removing the release clauses from the Norwegian star’s contract, despite City’s desire for him to sign fresh terms without the clauses. This stance comes amid reports that Spanish giants Barcelona are considering a move to sign Haaland in 2025.

Haaland, who has scored 31 goals and provided six assists in 39 appearances this season, has expressed satisfaction with his current contract and life in Manchester.

However, his representatives insist that the inclusion of release clauses is essential for giving Haaland some say in his future and ensuring his freedom in decision-making.

Manchester City has been attempting to persuade Haaland to sign a new contract with a major pay raise and the removal of release clauses since 2022.

However, the player’s agents, including Rafaela Pimenta, have emphasized the importance of maintaining the clauses, which have been present in all his deals since leaving Norway for Red Bull Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund.

Barcelona, on the other hand, is reportedly plotting how to finance a potential deal for Haaland in 2025, with the club viewing him as the ideal replacement for current striker Robert Lewandowski.

The Catalan giants are hopeful that the summer of 2025 will offer them financial flexibility due to the reopening of their newly rebuilt home at Camp Nou.

Haaland’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has publicly defended the inclusion of release clauses in contracts, stating that it provides players with the freedom to decide their futures.

While Manchester City remains committed to retaining Haaland, the possibility of a future transfer remains a topic of interest and speculation.
