De Bruyne: City surpassed expectations, this season incredible regardless of title

Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne reflected on his time at the club, acknowledging their achievements have exceeded his initial expectations. He believes the current season has been “incredible” for City, even if they don’t win the Premier League title.

A Remarkable Journey

De Bruyne joined City in 2015 and is on the verge of his sixth Premier League title in seven seasons. A win against West Ham this Sunday would solidify City’s place in history as the first team to win four consecutive English championships.

“When I came here, it was a very different team,” de Bruyne explained. “We needed a rebuild, and I was probably one of the first pieces at the time. I would have never expected to win five titles or all the things we have done. It’s been pretty incredible.”

City’s Accomplishments

City achieved a treble last season and could secure a double this year, with the FA Cup final against Manchester United looming next week. De Bruyne emphasizes the importance of enjoying the journey, not just the trophies.

“People always talk about trophies,” he said, “but we work for 11 months to get to this situation and if you don’t enjoy it along the way, what does it really mean? That one game – if we win or don’t win, it’s not going to change how I feel how well we did this season.”

De Bruyne Praises Haaland’s Consistency

Despite missing a significant portion of the season due to injury, de Bruyne expressed satisfaction with his own performances upon returning. He also lauded teammate Erling Haaland, who he believes deserves more recognition for his goal-scoring feats this season.

“When he had the season he had last year and the numbers were so incredible and ridiculous,” de Bruyne said of Haaland, “people don’t appreciate what you’ve done. He’s now on 27 [league] goals and probably going to win the Golden Boot again. It’s incredible. He’s been amazing again and he’ll always do what he does.”

With the Premier League title within reach and an FA Cup final ahead, Manchester City look to cap off an impressive season under Pep Guardiola’s leadership.
