Chelsea’s youngster performance caught Guardiola attention

Manchester City reportedly set their sights on Chelsea’s young defender Ian Maatsen as a potential summer signing.

The 21-year-old impressed on loan at Borussia Dortmund, helping them reach the Champions League final. Pep Guardiola’s side is looking to strengthen again in the summer, and Maatsen’s performances have caught their attention.

Maatsen’s talent is attracting interest from other clubs as well. His father mentioned they have options besides Chelsea and Dortmund, highlighting Dortmund’s success in developing young players as a reason for Maatsen’s flourishing loan spell.

Manchester City scouts have reportedly been monitoring Maatsen closely, including during the Champions League semi-final against PSG. With a Champions League final appearance at Wembley on the horizon, Maatsen’s value continues to rise.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are aiming to finish the season strongly and potentially qualify for the Europa League.

However, there are reports suggesting they might be open to selling some young players, including Maatsen, to raise funds. Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah, and Omari Hutchinson could also be sold for the right offer.

For Maatsen, a return to Chelsea for pre-season training is expected before a decision is made on his long-term future. Ipswich Town is reportedly interested in signing him permanently.
