Barcelona now don’t want to pay release clause to sign £300k-a-week Man City star

Barcelona is reportedly hesitant to pay the release clause to sign Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva this summer. Although Silva remains a transfer target for the La Liga club, he is not a priority, and they consider the £50 million release clause in his contract to be too high.

Barcelona’s manager, Xavi Hernandez, has expressed admiration for Silva and tried to convince him to join the Spanish club last summer. However, the club may only make a move for the 29-year-old midfielder if they can make sales first.

Since joining Manchester City in 2017, Silva has made 349 appearances, scoring 66 goals and providing 62 assists. He has played a significant role in City’s success, winning various domestic and European titles.

Silva’s importance to Manchester City is evident in his regular appearances this season, starting 37 out of 43 games and earning a weekly wage of £300k. Manager Pep Guardiola feels “safe” and “comfortable” when the Portuguese international is on the pitch due to his intelligence and ball control.

Considering Silva’s impact and cost, Barcelona may need to reconsider their approach if they cannot meet the release clause.
