Barcelona baulk at Man City superstar’s €175 million valuation, 2025 move unlikely

Recent speculations regarding FC Barcelona’s pursuit of Manchester City’s Erling Haaland for a summer 2025 transfer seem to have hit a roadblock.

Despite President Joan Laporta’s interest in acquiring the Norwegian striker as a strategic move, the club has now ruled out the possibility due to economic concerns.

Reports from SPORT indicate that Barcelona is unwilling to proceed with the Haaland transfer due to the exorbitant costs involved.

While discussions have taken place between Haaland’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, and the club’s sporting director, Deco, the financial implications of the deal have led Barcelona to reassess their approach.

Haaland’s release clause stands at a staggering €175 million, as stipulated in his contract with Manchester City. This valuation makes the move economically unfeasible for Barcelona, particularly given the current financial landscape and the uncertainties surrounding future revenues.

While Haaland’s desire to play in La Liga and the potential departure of Robert Lewandowski from Barcelona in 2025 could have created an opportunity, the club remains cautious.

Even with the potential wage bill relief from Lewandowski’s departure, Barcelona is hesitant to pursue such high-profile signings without substantial financial backing.

The club acknowledges the need for a top striker to replace Lewandowski, but the financial constraints make Haaland’s acquisition unrealistic at this time. As Barcelona navigates its future transfer strategies, economic prudence seems to be the prevailing concern.
